Let’s be honest, the world is never going to stop making Metal Gear Solid remakes in our heads. Ghost Babel (the Game Boy Color cult classic) has always deserved a proper modern glow-up, so I thought: why not show everyone what that could actually look like?
The Mission
I set out to create UI concepts that feel like Metal Gear — cinematic, sharp, and just a little bit obsessed with looking cool. I didn’t want to make something that screamed “generic action game” or looked like it was put together in an afternoon with some free asset pack. This is a love letter and a flex.
Tools of the Trade
- Photoshop: For that final polish and drama. Grime, lighting, character detail — all the bits that make a menu screen look like it could punch you in the face.
- Figma: For actual usability and layout, because Snake doesn’t have time to squint at his health bar.
- Midjourney AI: Used for those juicy character renders. Yeah, I let the robots do some of the heavy lifting. If Kojima can have AI and clones, so can I.
What You’re Looking At
Title/Menu Screen
This is the “don’t touch anything, just stare at it for a minute” screen. Moody close-up of Snake, iconic logo, minimal clutter. All attitude.
In-Game UI
Ammo, weapons, camo — everything you need, nothing you don’t. Clean lines, bold info, and a layout that never gets between you and your next questionable stealth decision. The codec and dialogue windows tip their hat to the OG series, but without the 90s jank.
Behind the Scenes
I spent way too long tweaking typefaces and layout spacing so everything felt “MGS” without looking dated. There’s a fine line between homage and rip-off, and I wasn’t interested in crossing it. This is all about updating the vibe — serious, cinematic, and just a bit gritty.
The Verdict
If you’re into slick UI, weird franchise nostalgia, or just want to see what happens when Photoshop, Figma, and AI all get thrown in a box with Snake, you’re in the right place. This was a passion project and a playground for flexing design muscles — no budget, no deadlines, just pure creative chaos.
Tools: Photoshop, Figma, Midjourney AI
Vibe: Cinematic, modern, a little unhinged
